Get Tax Credits with These Home Improvement Projects
Apr 05, 2016The Consolidated Appropriations Act, which rewards homeowners for doing home improvement projects that can boost their property’s energy efficiency, has been extended. Homeowners have until December 31, 2016 to carry out such projects and qualify for tax credits. If you’re considering giving your home a makeover, now is a great time to do so.
Replace Old Doors and Windows
Under the program, you can recoup 10% of the cost of replacing old doors and windows with ENERGY STAR-certified Monroe doors and windows. While the program excludes labor costs, you can get as much as $200 worth of tax credits for window replacements and $500 for door replacements.
To qualify, window and/or door replacements should be installed in your principal residence between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2016. Keep in mind that you don’t have to replace all old doors and windows in your home. You can simply add a new door or window to a vacant space in your property to enjoy the tax incentives.
Get a New Roofing System
Getting a roof replacement may also give you the opportunity to enjoy tax breaks under the Consolidated Appropriations Act. When you replace your old roof with one that meets ENERGY STAR requirements, you can recover 10% of the replacement costs, or up to $500 worth of tax credits. Installing either a metal roof that features appropriate pigmented coating or an asphalt roof with the proper cooling granules qualifies you for the program.
Other Projects
